PlayStation deletes purchased movies from customer accounts Due to the expiration of a licensing agreement with Studio Canal, Reminding Us Nothing Digital Is Ever Truly Ours

 Sony has begun talking to its customers for purchasing digital copies of movies on its PlayStation Store, too. Per Kotaku, PlayStation has begun notifying customers that some of the movies that they purchased will no longer be available in their libraries due to the expiration of a licensing agreement with Studio Canal. A statement on the PlayStation Store website reads, “From September 1, 2026, due to our content licensing agreements, you will no longer be able to access your previously purchased content from Studio Canal, and it will be removed from your video library. Thank you.”

Sony is contacting PlayStation Store users who bought movies from the platform that were distributed by StudioCanal—like Terminator 2, And Total Recall—to say that “you will no longer be able to access your previously purchased content from Studio Canal, and it will be removed from your video library.” There’s no mention of any refunds or make-goods for the affected users. Sony simply says the films are going away “due to our content licensing agreements,” once again reaffirming the fact that you are never truly buying anything that’s digital, just temporarily renting it. Now, 551 films and TV series that are being pulled from people’s libraries, with no way to find it again After September 1
